Nick Hotel coming to Dubai

Hot on the heels of the launch of the Nickelodeon Arabia television channel, media giant Viacom International is planning to bring its Nick Hotel franchise to Dubai.

Viacom, which has the MTV and Nickelodeon international networks among others in its bag of channels, also owns the Nick Hotels franchise that is managed globally by the Marriott Group. Nick Hotels are designed specifically for children and are themed around the Nickelodeon channel brand. They operate only in the US, where they have reportedly become very popular with families. Viacom intends to take the Nick Hotel franchise to several emerging markets around the world.

“We are looking to roll out 20 Nick hotels across the world by 2020,” said Bhavneet Singh, Managing Director of MTV International Networks, Emerging Markets. He said the company was very interested in the Middle East and was looking specifically at the UAE.

The company launched Nickelodeon Arabia on Saturday in partnership with Arab Media Group, which had earlier launched MTV Arabia under a similar partnership. Having already launched the Nickelodeon theme park in Dubai earlier, the channel and now the proposed Nick Hotel are seen as logical follow-up efforts towards expanding in the region.

Singh said Nick hotels are unique family destinations tailored for children – with Nickelodeon characters, splash rides, and even rooms and beds designed with kids in mind. The company also intends to bring its indoor Nickelodeon theme park to Dubai, Singh said. The park here will be a replica of the original at the Mall of America near Minneapolis, which is the largest mall in the US.
