Burj Al Arab
History
In 1994 the construction of Burj Al Arab, or “Tower of the Arabs”, began. Its resemblance to the sail of a dhow (traditional arab sailing vessel) is not a coincidence, as architect Tom Wright was to create an icon that would indeed put Dubai on the map.
$650 million USD and five years later Burj Al Arab was completed and immediately attracted its first visitors. From that day on, Burj Al Arab has become an iconic statement along other famous structures.
